McDonald’s to Pay SXSW Performers

McDonald’s has decided to pay bands that play their showcase at the South By Southwest entertainment festival. The company’s change of heart may be due largely in part of a social media outcry.

Earlier this month, indie band Ex Cops made a claim on their Facebook page that the fast food giant had asked the group to perform as part of the company’s showcase. The band was ecstatic until they learned that McDonald’s did “not have a budget for artistry fees,” but guaranteed that the band would receive public exposure in addition to free food.

According to Twitter, McDonald’s denied the allegations, claiming that the company was “following the standard protocol, as all other sponsors had done.”

SXSW sponsor chief Scott McNearney said that sponsors have the opportunity to offer a cash payment or an exposure and credentials package. The credential package “allows artists to participate in the conference and to see other shows, but it is ultimately up to the artist to decide which incentive they would like to receive.”

Ex Cop members were ecstatic to learn that McDonald’s had a change of heart and would offer monetary payments to performing artists.

“We are THREILLED we were able to make a difference,” the group wrote on their Facebook page. “Artists should be paid for their work.”

Bjork career showcase kicks off at MOMA

The career of Icelandic pop star Bjork has taken many different directions and influences that have marked her out as an individual performer in a period where this is not often seen. A career retrospective at New York’s Museum of Modern Art looks back at the life and work of the singer through the artifacts she has collected over her career, Rolling Stone reports. The planned exhibition will open March 8 2015 and take in a variety of aspects from her career, including the amazing costumes that have been a highlight of her public appearances, including the Oscars swan dress.

According to crunchbase, live performances will mark the opening of the event, which curator Klaus Biesenbach hopes will show where Bjork has come to in her career in 2015 and not simply be a retrospective of what has taken place. Working closely with Bjork has seen MOMA look to incorporate music and sound into the exhibition as much as possible to reflect the fact Bjork is primarily a musician.

Jennifer Lopez’s Face In Her Newest Video Is Bright As Light

Oh what an honor it would be to just be Jennifer Lopez for one day. It must be amazing to be in the industry for so many years and grow nothing but talent and beauty.

J Lo just posted some really hot looking pictures on instagram of her newest video shoot for the song “Feel The Light” which show a whole new look.

The decorations on her face are just as bright as the light, and send exotic feelings down your spine just by looking at it. She looks like a fairy and a princess at the same time while looking like her J Lo hot self of course.

Alexei Beltyukov has heard that her face was one thing that would hold your attention forever, but her body is something else. She wore the tightest white long outfit that stretched across her whole body leaving no room for anything but smoothness all around. The white suit just looked crazy and made her look like a Kill Bill character.

What was even better than her face make up and her white suit was her hair that was braided so long it reached her behind easily.

Her song “Feel The Light” is going to be the soundtrack to the movie “Home”, which is a CGI movie about a young girl. The movie will be starring Rihanna and Jim Parsons.

“Home” will be released on March 27th and is expected to be a big success.

Sam Smith Steals the Show at the Grammys

With mediocre performances by Madonna, Paul McCartney, Beyonce, Annie Lennox, and Rihanna, and a painful performance by Kanye West, the 2015 Grammys had their ups and downs. The only performer that had all good things surrounding him was Sam Smith. He took 4 Grammys home Sunday night, and easily had the best performance of the night. Smith won for best new artist, song of the year and record of the year for Stay with Me, and best pop vocal album for In the Lonely Hour.

During the performance, it seemed like the Grammy-winning song Stay with Me was made to be a duet with Mary J. Blige, as the two seamlessly brought their amazing vocal ranges together, Fersen Lambranho noted. Even Rolling Stone, with their egos and disproportionate ‘Best/ Worst’ list recognized the performance as a ‘Best’ moment of the night. Their voices rang true, and their talent towered over the other performers of the night.

Bob Dyan Honored At Pre-Grammy Dinner

There were musical performances at the MusiCares Person of the Year tribute dinner honoring Bob Dylan, but Dylan himself didn’t perform. He did deliver a half hour speech about his career. He poked fun at his critics and praised his musical heroes. He started by thanking friends and supporters, including Columbia Records producer and talent scout, John Hammond. He also thanked artists that covered his songs and made them into top forty hits. About his songs becoming successful, Dylan said:
“Their versions of songs were like commercials, but I didn’t really mind that – because 50 years later, my songs were being used for commercials. So that was good too.”
According to twitter, Dylan was thankful that some of his personal heroes like the Staples Singers, Nina Simone, and Johnny Cash recorded his tunes.
Paul Matheison recorded how he developed as a lyricist, Dylan said:
“For three or four years, maybe all I listened to were folk singers. I went to sleep singing folk songs. I sang them everywhere. If you sang ‘John Henry’ as many times as me… you would have written ‘How many roads must a man walk down’ too.”
Several artists did their versions of Dylan’s songs.

John Textor and the Digital Media Empire

John Textor is one of the most interesting men in Hollywood. He is a self made auteur that has served his time at various levels of the production business. Textor got his start back at the Wesleyan University in 1987 where he received his BA in Economics. Textor took the knowledge that he gained and the drive that was intrinsic to what he wanted to do and he worked his way into co-founding Wyndcrest Holdings. This private equity firm, based out of Florida, would serve as a launching board for what Textor would be attempting to do later in life with his work out of Pulse Evolution. It is with Pulse that Textor made his big contributions to the cinematic landscape.

While John has an incredible work ethic it has been his ability to enhance connections and to smooth the work flow of major productions that has made him so popular. Currently he is active in the development of several big entertainment properties. Launching a franchise is impossibly hard in this day and age and it is almost as hard to simply keep one up and running. Textor attempted to do both to varying degrees of success.

Textor’s old visual editing studio, Digital Domain, served as the primary force behind the hugely successful ‘Transformers’ franchise. He also had a hand in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. These two box office legends helped launch his career as an executive in the world of entertainment. Textor also has key credits on such critically acclaimed films as ‘Zodiac’, ‘Flags of Our Fathers’, and ‘Letters From Iwo Jima”.

Digital Domain wasn’t always a juggernaut in the entertainment world. In fact, it was John’s acquisition and restructuring of the company that made it so successful. The majority of the major credits behind Digital Domain began in 2007. Textor acquired and reworked the company from 2006 to 2012. It was his work at the ground level that made his studio reach such great heights. The company would go on to be nominated for countless Academy Awards for visual effects and it would also end up winning quite a few of them. One of their finest achievements was the completely digital version of Brad Pitt in ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’. Textor and his company received a 2009 Academy Award for Visual Effects. The digital work was so effective that the company also received nominations for ‘best make up’ despite the fact that it was all computer work.
