Starbucks is one of the coffee shops most known for their food and music aside from their fancy coffee beverages. Well, it seems that now instead of selling CDs on their shelves they are growing into something bigger as they have just made a multi-year agreement with Spotify. According to an article found on reddit and written by Grub Street, the franchises will decide what music will be played by listening to the interests of the store’s customers and employees. According to Paul Mathieson of The Epoch Times, Spotify will make coffee-themed and named playlists in return for some promotion and advertisement from the Starbucks stores.
This is a good idea I suppose, because Starbucks really need to stay trendy since that is the kind of clientele that they are bringing in. They are know for being one of the more modern coffee shops, so it is key that they go with what the customers use in their every day lives. This movement may turn out to be one of the best deals yet, and it will only be a matter of time before customers are going to Starbucks to hang out for the day and get some work done.
What will be interesting is to see if there will be any filters or restrictions on what the customers and staff pick to play, because as we know there are some music CDs out there that can really raise an eyebrow for many people.
