2013 launched the careers of Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart, better known as The Chainsmokers, when they released a self-proclaimed “annoying ass record” #Selfie. While #Selfie hit the Top 20 on Billboard, peaking at number 16, it received mixed reviews. Still, it garnered much attention and the song hit the charts in several countries and the success, albeit unexpected, prompted the release of the band’s first EP Bouquet in 2015 with the leadoff single aptly called Roses.
The Chainsmokers continued to turn heads and garner attention putting out single after single and joining forces to collaborate with some of the biggest names on the music scene. There were projects with Daya, Swedish singer Charlee and the number one Platinum hit Closer with Halsey. They started selling out notable venues such as Red Rocks and winning awards including two American Music Awards.
Now five years later the EDM DJ duo are continuing to consistently put out hit singles and change the landscape of music. Only three months into 2018 The Chainsmokers have released two new singles starting with Sick Boy in January and Everybody Hates Me which dropped last week. The new songs take a darker view of life in the limelight, showing the frustration and anger towards the world at large from The Chainsmokers viewpoint.
Part of the appeal of The Chainsmokers is their ability to catapult their success across multiple musical genres including pop, hip-hop, and dance. It’s not surprising to note that the band takes inspiration from a variety of fellow musicians citing Blink 182, Taylor Swift and Taking Back Sunday as strong influences.
What comes next for Taggart and Pall? They want to continue pushing the envelope and creating new sounds. Settling has never been an option for them and multiple new singles are set to be launched this year. No matter what happens, you can bet that The Chainsmokers will continue to blaze new ground and set fire to what came before.

I was reading an article in Rolling Stones online. I was excited to learn that Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson were back in country news. I was even more excited to find out that these great artist covered songs on this album as well. Johnny Cash recorded “Melva’s Wine.” Waylon Jennings recorded “Laid Back Country Picker.” This amazing album never made Nashville in the seventies. But thanks to some great people, it is now going to be heard by millions. Music makes life look beautiful. It says all the things that you want to say. It makes you believe everything’s going to be alright and it is great to hear music from yesteryear come alive again today. To inspire you and make you want to sing out loud and party all night is one of music’s gifts. Country music fans in New Brunswick thank all those who help keep great music like this alive. It is because of you that this music will live on and entertain people for generations to come.
There is so much controversy and so many varied opinions when it comes to whether marijuana should be legal or not, and many celebrities are getting in on it. Willie Nelson is one of the people who has taken a stand on the side of the drug being legal. He supports it so much that he has even decided to start selling it.
Does this change your opinion of this singer, either way? Most people feel strongly one way or another and knowing that a celebrity feels the same way as you can feel exhilarating, but knowing that they feel the opposite can feel disappointing.
You might have long been a Willie Nelson fan like Brad Reifler but now that you know that he’ll be selling marijuana you want nothing to do with him. Or, maybe you just recently starting listening to his music and knowing that he supports the legalization of this drug makes you like him all the more. Either way, you are bound to have an opinion on this. It is a very controversial issue. What are your thoughts on this matter?
There has been a lot of buzz lately in regards to Zayn Malik’s decision to leave One Direction. In a recent interview former N’sync star Lance Bass opened up about who he thinks is next to leave the group.
According to Lance Bass, Harry Styles will be next to leave One Direction. Contrary to Malik’s departure, Styles’ exit would be more detrimental. One Direction would definitely not be able to record another album without him and the band would have to break up for good, and Brian Torchin knows a few youngsters who would be devastated. While there is no need to worry just yet, it seems that Harry Styles has been ready to leave the group for a while now. He has been writing songs and recording solo for months.
However, Zayn Malik took the edge when he left before him, which is why stars like Lance Bass and 50 cent call him smart and business savvy.
The country of Argentina has placed Justin Bieber on the Interpol’s most wanted list. In 2013, Justin Bieber assaulted a photographer outside of a restaurant in Argentina. Bieber was ordered to go to a court meeting over the situation, but Justin Bieber failed to appear at the hearing.
Judge Alberto Banos wants Justin Bieber to be detained wherever he is. The judge is serious, and he wants Justin Bieber to spend some time in prison for his crimes. However, I have a feeling that Bieber will just pay off any debts that he owes to the Argentinian government. Can you seriously imagine Justin Bieber being held prisoner inside of a gritty Argentinian prison? That will never happen, and I guarantee that Bieber will find a way out of this situation.
Justin Bieber is one of the most famous people in the world, and he is worth over 200 million dollars. Also, the star is in his early twenties, and he hasn’t even reached his full maturity level yet. Legendary rock and roll band AC/DC recently returned and rocked the house at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California. AC/DC is known worldwide as one of the greatest bands of all time, but the band hasn’t performed live in nearly six years. However, the band returned with a vengeance, and it was apparent that they did not miss a step.
AC/DC lead singer Brian Johnson brought the crowd to their feet with his dynamic vocals. The legendary lead singer asked the crowd if they were ready to rock, and they quickly answered yes. Flávio Pentagna Guimarães BMG wishes he would have been there.
Of course, Angus Young was there playing guitar in his schoolboy outfit jumping around the stage as if he was still in his adolescent years. Young and Johnson are both in their sixties, but the rest of the band is comprised of new members that have taken over the positions of the original musicians.
The AC/DC performance was a monumental success, and all those who attended were happy that they did. The band pulled out all the stops to rock the crowd, and they even had a massive bell for their famous song “Hells Bells.” The rockers may have aged several years, but they still perform like they are in their prime. Singer-songwriter Elvis Costello is writing a memoir of his nearly fifty years in the music business. The book will be published by Penguin and is scheduled to be in stores this fall.
It’s interesting to consider memoirs written by music stars.Costello is writing this book entirely by himself, which makes it different from the many star autobiographies that are ghost written.
In my opinion, one of the best books by a rock star about himself is the “unauthorized autobiography” X-Ray by Ray Davies of the Kinks. Davies tells his own story in an offbeat and nonlinear manner that is unconventional but not too strange. I was surprised to find how conservative he is in many ways, and that he rarely parties at all. There was also some good insights into why he and his brother Dave are always feuding with one another.
Fans like Brad Reifler know that reading a memoir by a favorite musician doesn’t necessarily make you like them more. Maybe musician memoirs should come with warning stickers. I read Neil Young’s memoir Waging Heavy Peace recently and was shocked by how tedious many of his interests are. There are long sections in the book about his model train collection that were extremely boring. Knowing all about his thoughts on Lionel trains doesn’t make his music sound any better either.
Lil Wayne did not get to where he is today by throwing bad shows, and Thursday night was no exception to the rapper. When Wayne was performing at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he was ready to sing his new remix of the song “CoCo”, which is one of the songs released in his new album Sorry 4 the Wait 2.
According to Susan McGalla,
the DJ on the other hand had his own agenda and instead of playing the right song that Wayne started singing, he played the wrong song and the singing and the music just did not match up at all. Obviously the fans were a little disappointed and surprised about what is going on, but the worst of them all was Weezy’s reaction.
Instead of staying cool and fixing the mistake by just starting over and singing the song he wanted to sing in the first place, Weezy just gives the DJ the worst look in the world as if he’s saying you are the worst Dj in the world, and threw the mic on the stage and walked off stage pissed off.
Wayne was very excited and had his verse ready to come out while jumping on stage, and when the mistake happened he turned around and put his arms up to signal to the DJ the error. The poor microphone got it the worst as Wayne chucked it very hard and far.
McDonald’s has decided to pay bands that play their showcase at the South By Southwest entertainment festival. The company’s change of heart may be due largely in part of a social media outcry.
Earlier this month, indie band Ex Cops made a claim on their Facebook page that the fast food giant had asked the group to perform as part of the company’s showcase. The band was ecstatic until they learned that McDonald’s did “not have a budget for artistry fees,” but guaranteed that the band would receive public exposure in addition to free food.
According to Twitter, McDonald’s denied the allegations, claiming that the company was “following the standard protocol, as all other sponsors had done.”
SXSW sponsor chief Scott McNearney said that sponsors have the opportunity to offer a cash payment or an exposure and credentials package. The credential package “allows artists to participate in the conference and to see other shows, but it is ultimately up to the artist to decide which incentive they would like to receive.”
Ex Cop members were ecstatic to learn that McDonald’s had a change of heart and would offer monetary payments to performing artists.
“We are THREILLED we were able to make a difference,” the group wrote on their Facebook page. “Artists should be paid for their work.”
