Eric Lefkofsky – Taking Charge of Cancer with Modern Technology

Almost 40 percent adults in the United States face a diagnosis of cancer at some stage in their lives. According to NCI (National Cancer Institute), roughly 14.5 million citizens of United States had cancer in the year 2014. The number is expected to be over 19 million by 2024. Thanks to advances that are made by companies such as Temper, the forecast seems better. Tempus leads the charge in precision medicine that are data enabled. The health industry is up to speed with the modern health care technology.

Eric Lefkofsky, the founder of Tempus never had a personal experience with treatment of cancer, until his spouse was diagnosed with breast cancer. He got shocked when he learned about the gaping hole existing in the field regarding digital technology and data collection. Despite the amount of data collected and generated by patients and their treatments, there’s no streamlined, effective way to collect that information and use it effectively.

That’s why Tempus came into play. The company had an impressive and lofty goal of transforming how cancer care delivered. Tempus developed a platform that analyzes molecular and clinical data of patients. It had means of developing analytics software but had some issues.

Eric Lefkofsky was born on Sept. 2, 1969. He’s an entrepreneur from the U.S. He’s the CEO and co-founder of Tempus. He’s also the chairman and co-founder of Groupon. He co-founded ECHO (Echo Global Logistics), INWK(InnerWorkings), Uptake, and Mediaocean. Lefkofsky is the co founder of venture capital (VC) firm, Lightbank. He studied at University of Michigan (UM), where he graduated cum laude in the year 1991. He continued studying at Michigan Law, where he received his Juris Doctor in the year 1993.

Lefkofsky with his wife Liz established Lefkofsky Family Foundation in 2006, which is a private charitable foundation, meant to advance initiatives that are of high impact that improves lives in communities that are served. Lefkofsky works as Trustee for World Business Chicago, MSI (Museum of Science and Industry), and The Art Institute of Chicago. He’s an adjunct lecturer at U of C and Accelerated Disruption author.
