Lacey and Larkin revisits the crimes committed by Arpaio after pardon

The state of Arizona in the United States is one that has a history of immigration. It is located at the border with Mexico. The Mexican border is the most porous in the history of immigration into the United States. Many people pass through this border as they enter into the United States. Commonly they are referred to as illegal immigrants. Most of the immigrants who come into the United States do so in search of better opportunities such as jobs with higher pay. However, the issue of illegal immigration into the United States has been a concern for many people in the country especially the natives.

For a long time, there has been a conflict between the natives, human rights activists, and the immigrants’ communities. Natives have been accused of discriminating the immigrants by human rights organizations.

In the state of Arizona, things have been worse for many immigrants especially those who live in the state without the right documentation. Many times, they are mistreated by the locals.

In the county of Maricopa, this is where there is a history of human rights violations of great magnitude. The people in power have promoted the violations of human rights in this area.

One person who is known for sponsoring violation of human rights is former sheriff Joe Arpaio. Learn more about Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey:

Joe held the position of the sheriff for four terms. In his four terms as the sheriff, he spent time committing some grave mistakes against the people of Maricopa.

Joe Arpaio was mistreating immigrants in the state in a very bad manner. He used to take them through physical torture and even caused dealt with some of them.

His actions could be in the best terms be said to be “crimes against humanity” Joe Arpaio had his concentration camps where he would hold anyone who was living in the country without the requisite documentation.

The concentration camps were hell on earth. The living condition was a disgrace to humanity. For instance, the temperatures in the concentration camps would go all the way up to 135 degrees Fahrenheit.

Joe Arpaio used the concentration camps as jails where illegal immigrants in the state would be held before they were deported back to their countries of origin. Joe Arpaio was committing these crimes under the full glare of the judicial system who never bothered to intervene.

The only group of people who took issue with the way he was handling his duties are the journalists. Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey are journalists in the area. They were dedicated to highlighting the plight of the people of Maricopa County.

They followed the actions of Joe Arpaio closely and identified all the crimes he was committing. They went ahead and published the reports in their media outlet known as Phoenix New Times. Their actions to report hi led to their arrest in 2007 by the same Sheriff.

In October of 2017, ten years later after the arrest of Lacey and Larkin, Joe Arpaio has been pardoned by President Trump meaning he will not face prosecution over his actions as the Sheriff of Maricopa County.
