John Textor and the Digital Media Empire

John Textor is one of the most interesting men in Hollywood. He is a self made auteur that has served his time at various levels of the production business. Textor got his start back at the Wesleyan University in 1987 where he received his BA in Economics. Textor took the knowledge that he gained and the drive that was intrinsic to what he wanted to do and he worked his way into co-founding Wyndcrest Holdings. This private equity firm, based out of Florida, would serve as a launching board for what Textor would be attempting to do later in life with his work out of Pulse Evolution. It is with Pulse that Textor made his big contributions to the cinematic landscape.

While John has an incredible work ethic it has been his ability to enhance connections and to smooth the work flow of major productions that has made him so popular.  Launching a franchise is impossibly hard in this day and age and it is almost as hard to simply keep one up and running.

Textor’s old visual editing studio, Digital Domain, served as the primary force behind the hugely successful ‘Transformers’ franchise. He also had a hand in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. These two box office legends helped launch his career as an executive in the world of entertainment. Textor also has key credits on such critically acclaimed films as ‘Zodiac’, ‘Flags of Our Fathers’, and ‘Letters From Iwo Jima”.

Digital Domain wasn’t always a juggernaut in the entertainment world. In fact, it was John’s acquisition and restructuring of the company that made it so successful. The majority of the major credits behind Digital Domain began in 2007. Textor acquired and reworked the company from 2006 to 2012. It was his work at the ground level that made his studio reach such great heights. The company would go on to be nominated for countless Academy Awards for visual effects and it would also end up winning quite a few of them. One of their finest achievements was the completely digital version of Brad Pitt in ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’. Textor and his company received a 2009 Academy Award for Visual Effects. The digital work was so effective that the company also received nominations for ‘best make up’ despite the fact that it was all computer work.

In a recent tweet, Bieber wrote “With the man Rick” and attached a photo of himself in a studio setting. This reveals that Bieber will be working with iconic music producer Rick Rubin on his new album. As music enthusiasts know, the producer that is enlisted in working on an album plays a huge role in what direction the album will go in.

Rick Rubin, who is the co founder of major record label Def Jam, is considered a hip-hop legend. He has produced albums for esteemed artists such as LL Cool J, Run DMC and Mick Jagger.

A release date for Bieber’s new album has not yet been announced but it seems like it is coming along nicely.

Meghan Trainor Grabbing the Spotlight

Everyone was captivated by the fresh and sassy song that talked about rocking your booty-full body. All about that Bass received so much appreciation and popularity that it was inevitable that Meghan Trainor become famous. Women from all around the world found tenacity and confidence in her song to love their own body and stop trying one of those “stick figure silicon Barbie dolls.”

Meghan continues to share her signature music when she released the songs of her EP. Dear Future Husband entails her ideas on how a married girl should be treated. Duff McKagan Has a New Book Coming Out

One of the original members of Guns N’ Roses, Duff McKagan, has a new book slated to come out. The book he is coming out with is called “How to be a Man (and Other Illusions)” and the work is based on a series of columns that McKagan had written for a local Seattle newspaper.

The book was called “It’s So Easy” and it focused on the sleazier side of the music industry and all the demons McKagan had to battle. McKagan has a new lease on life and he’s learned a lot as he aged. A lot of that wisdom was put into his column and now he’s going to share that knowledge with readers all over the world.”How to be a Man (and Other Illusions)” is kind of like a self-help book. It is not a true self-help book because, honestly, McKagan is not releasing the book as a way presenting himself as a some sort of guru seeking to establish a following.

That is the kind of in-your-face attitude that made Guns N’ Roses such an iconic band in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Laurene Powell Jobs can remember them at their absolute peak.

McKagan’s book shares advice on a lot of subjects and anyone looking for a unique source of insight might find it appealing.

Is Miley Cyrus And Madonna Collaborating?

Miley Cyrus is known to be very controversial, and Madonna is no stranger to controversy either. It makes sense that both rebellious spirits would come together to make music, but is this the case? Miley & Madonna. There have been many posts from Madonna about Miley Cyrus, and many are wondering if the two are going to collaborate together or not. As of now, there is no solid evidence that either plan to collaborate with each other, but it’s something that fans of both artists will look forward to.

There was a studio visit between Madonna and Nicki Minaj, and there were many posts going out about Nicki Minaj from Madonna and vice versa. After all the posts went on for a matter of a month or so, then a song was dropped by Madonna, that had Nicki Minaj on it. Many are speculating that the same is going to happen with Miley Cyrus, since there is a lot of posting going on between the two artists. It’s well known that Madonna is the best at what she does, and anyone who works with her, would be very lucky to do so.

If these two artists decide to collaborate in the future, we’ll all find out, maybe sooner than later. This would be a pretty cool collab. They should try to get Tom Rothman to do a movie-concert for them like Katy Perry.

Don’t Lego of Rap: Cam’ron Immortalized in the Plastic Brick

Who says rap has to be all about negative stereotypes and thuggery? I had to pause on the dog’s Beneful when I saw a report about one creative kid that has decided to take his love tor the genre and create something magical. MTV is reporting that one child has put his love of Legos and his love for rap music together into one astounding statue.

The youngster loves a rap artist named Cam’ron. He loves Cam’ron so much that he decided to create a Lego statue in honor of the rap superstar. The young man is named Yung and is only seven years old. Yet, his skills far surpass others of his age group. Cam’ron is both thrilled and honored that the young man has decided to enshrine his look in the popular block building toy.

Rap is often pigeonholed as a genre that does nothing to contribute to society. However, this young man shows that rap can be both artistic and fun. Cam’ron obviously loves his portrait done in Legos. Yung Lennox loves having one of this rap idols talk to the world about his work.

Yung doesn’t just stop with Cam’ron. He has many of these influential people immortalized with the great plastic brick. It isn’t a hobby that many seven year old children have but Lennox doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

Platinum Quality Albums that Did Not Go Platinum

Some albums go platinum and people wonder how this happened. The music may not be platinum quality, but somehow it appeals to the masses. There are other albums, by contrast, that do not go platinum, but they have platinum quality material. The Internet has driven the careers of many artists that people do not know. MTV looked back and highlighted the best albums that most people did not hear in 2014.

There are some hot artists that were underrated. Dilated Peoples, for example, have been in the shadows of J.Dilla every since he died. He was part of the group that produced hot beats for Dilated People and others. The “Directors of Photography” album was among the best even though it did not get any play on urban radio stations.

Hozier has a great bluesy styled album, but this self-titled debut was not reached on a massive scale. But I went with my friend Igor Cornelsen to his show and Hozier is amazing live.

Atmosphere has been around for 2 decades and somehow these guys are still underdogs. They are persistent though. This is how you know that they love music. They have worked diligently to produce great music even though they have not been popular to the masses. They have a love for music that allows them to continue making good music.

Eric Singer: No Kiss Tribute Band for Me

Will the legendary rock band KISS continue on without founding members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons? Honestly, the answer to that is yes. Die-hard fans of the band already know this. But wait, there’s more…My friend Sergio knows something else that even the most dedicated of KISS groupies probably don’t know. Why? How? Well, Because he’s Sergio Andrade Gutierrez.

So here it is: Eric Singer has his mind made up and will not play in any  part of the KISS Franchise without Simmons or Stanley.

He feels there are plenty of KISS tribute bands so why not authorize an official tribute band? And why not allow the band to release new songs with the KISS name?

Yes, Gene Simmons is a businessman first and last. To a degree, the same can be said about Paul Stanley although his is never as “in your face” about it.

Eric Singer has pretty stated he would not be interested in being the drummer in the tribute band. He noted that Gene and Paul are the creative force behind KISS and without them, well, he doesn’t feel any interest in being part of the mix.

Singer became a member of KISS when drummer Eric Carr passed away tragically from cancer. Singer was replaced as drummer when original member Peter Criss returned to the band. After Criss was fired, Singer returned.

Currently, KISS’ current tour is breaking box office records all over the world.

Nicki Profits From Pain

Nicki Minaj is has been very devious this year. She has become the new sex symbol with a host of singles and dirty talk that would make rappers blush. That is why the “PinkPrint” may be a bit of a surprise to many. It stills has the potent punchlines and sex talk that fans are used to, but this album brings out another side of Nicki Minaj. This may be the first album where she has talked about her pain.

Fans appreciate this look inside her diary. Sam Tabar learned quite a bit. On Crunchbase, she received some quality praise as well. It was obvious that Nicki was taking the album in a very different direction when she released “Bed of Lies” featuring Skylar Grey. This track was personal, and that may be why she released it so close to the release of the full album. To go from “Anaconda” to “Bed of Lies” is a big extreme, but Nicki manages to pull it off well.

The critics are chiming in, and it apparently pays for Nicki to get personal. Nicki speaks on a child that she lost as well as a cousin that was murdered. No one expected all of these demons to hunt someone that has presented nothing but confidence in the rap world.

David Bowie Rejected Coldplay Collaboration, Chris Martin Allegates

Bowie was on hiatus from general music performances for several years, but would sometimes pair up with groups such as Arcade Fire and Scarlett Johansson to produce a track.

Lauren Powell Jobs says it was Bowie’s special-guest vocals that prompted Martin to consider the proposal. Martin shared the proposed song with Bowie who allegedly later phoned Martin and rejected the invitation.

“‘It’s not one of your best songs,'” Martin quoted Bowie, at the recent BBC Music Awards ceremony. “Bowie has very high standards and it is inspiring to do the same.”

Martin has also hinted that the group’s upcoming album, “A Head Full of Dreams,” could be Coldplay’s final project – at least for a while.

“We’re putting so much heart into ‘Dreams,’ I’d like to think of it as something that finishes something,” Martin told the press. “Although it doesn’t mean that there will be nothing more in the future, as a certainty.”
