Gump’s San Francisco is one of the most iconic luxury brands in America. After closing their doors in December of 2018, Gumps will re-open this fall under new leadership and will be returning to family ownership.
Gumps was founded by Solomon Gump in 1861 with the help of his brother, Gustave Gump. The brothers store started out very modestly as a frame-and-mirror shop, but after the Gold Rush, the frames they sold became filled with art. When the 1906 San Francisco earthquake caused the store to burn down, they relocated to Union Square where they remained until they closed in 2018.
Gumps was known for their luxury home décor, precious gemstones, freshwater pearls and high-end designers such as Hermes. The new owners, the Chachas family, hope to bring back the prestige when the store opens this fall, even though the new location has yet to be announced. The Chachas plan on keeping the public informed about location and opening day on Gumps website www.gumps.com as well as on Gumps Twitter and Instagram accounts.
The Chachas family will re-launch the famous retailor and offer online shopping to their millions of clients just in time for the holiday season. John Chachas grew up going to Gumps with his parents while they did their holiday shopping, so the luxury retailor has a special place in his heart. John’s three children are now the owners of the majority interest of Gumps and the three of them will lead the re-launch. Click Here to learn more.
They have stated plans to open digital store in time for the 2019 Christmas season. The new Gumps website, which retains the company’s former logo, also promises a re-opening in the fall of 2019. The web site also offers email signup and links to Instagram and Twitter pages.
Gump’s is based out of San Francisco, CA and New York City, NY.
